Liftoff Gives – London 10km for MS Society

By Elysia Fawn | September 30, 2019

At Liftoff, one of our company goals is to create a culture that is inclusive and fun, but also meaningful to employees. With that spirit in mind, a volunteer program was created called “Liftoff Gives”. Liftoff Gives provides volunteering opportunities to all Liftoffers with the goal of giving back to our local communities easily. Each global team takes part in a different event on a quarterly basis.

Our London and Paris teams love engaging in Liftoff Gives events as often as we can – we previously participated in “Big Spring Beach Clean” where we collected items of rubbish on Brighton beach, doing our bit to help with plastic pollution. Another event involved us supporting Action for Children – a UK children’s charity committed to helping vulnerable and neglected children. We volunteered by spending the day doing fun outdoor activities with the children during the October half term.

For Q3, the EMEA team came up with some ideas for different events to take part in and then put the options up for a vote. The chosen event turned out to be an event that I suggested, which is very dear to my heart – the 10k Walk in aid of the MS Society. This charity is especially meaningful to me as I lost my mother to this disease 4 years ago.

The MS Society is a community of researchers, fundraisers, campaigners, volunteers and people living with MS. The ultimate goal of the charity is to find a cure. Until then, they are working to make sure that nobody has to face MS alone.

We weren’t too sure as to what was going to happen with the weather, but we braved the storms and we were even accompanied by a very cute mascot.

To date, we have raised a total of £1470.96 – 147% over our original target!

I am grateful to my team for voting to do this event and to everyone who donated to this very worthy cause. It means so much to have such a caring and supportive group of coworkers join me to volunteer for something that has such a personal connection. This was the first time I have joined an event for the MS Society, and it certainly won’t be mine and Liftoff’s last!
